Advent Season 2008

 

November 30 - First Sunday of Advent

Traditional Worship
8:45 a.m.

Start the Advent Season with worship, music from the Sanctuary Choir, and lighting the first advent candle — the candle of Hope.

Contemporary Worship
11:00 a.m.

Join in worship and singing songs of praise as we begin the Advent Season and light the first advent candle — the candle of Hope.

Family Faith Night Advent Celebration
4:30 p.m.

Share a simple meal, crafts and intergenerational fellowship as we prepare our hearts for the coming Messiah. Each family will receive a beautiful advent devotional booklet and create a Christmas craft together. Tickets are $10 per family or $5 per individual plus one ingredient for our Stone Soup.

Presbyterian Women Christmas Gathering
1:00 p.m.

Enjoy Christmas cookies in the Gathering Place before moving to the Sanctuary to enjoy hearing from Rebecca Lawson, who will share her experiences as a mission worker in the Philippines as well as the ongoing struggle of the church for human rights in the face of government oppression. Please make reservations by December 1 by calling Liz Hiller at 487-5418.

December 7 - Second Sunday in Advent
Traditional Worship
8:45 a.m.

We will light the second advent candle - the candle of Peace - share communion together and enjoy music from the CPC Orchestra.

Contemporary Worship
11:00 a.m.

Join in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper and the lighting of the second advent candle - the candle of Peace.

See a live reenactment of the amazing gift of the birth of Jesus. You can drive or walk through, enjoying the telling of the Christmas story. Enjoy cookies, coffee and hot chocolate and bring a non-perishable food donation for the CPC Food Closet.

Celebrate with worship and music from the Sanctuary Choir and Mission Bells. Join your hearts with others in the faith community as we light the third advent candle - the candle of Joy.

Contemporary Worship Service
11:00 a.m.

Sing, pray and worship in celebration as we light the third advent candle - the candle of Joy.

A Service of Lessons and Carols
5:00 p.m.

Enjoy the delightful sounds of the season with traditional Christmas carols in a variety of musical settings from the Sanctuary Choir and Mission Bells intermixed with readings from the Christmas story. Plan to visit the Live Nativity following the concert.

December 21- Fourth Sunday of Advent
Christmas Drama and Worship Service
8:45 a.m. and  
11:00 a.m.

Poor, pitiful Simon feels like the whole world is against him at Christmas time. In “A Close Encounter of the Best Kind,” hear from Simon and walk with him through a most unusual encounter that helps him learn that, even in silence, God is always there. We will also light the fourth advent candle - the candle of Love.

Wednesday, December 24 - Christmas Eve
Family Candlelight Service
7:00 p.m.

Children help build the nativity scene as we recreate the first Christmas through scripture and carols led by CPC’s Contemporary Worship team. We will also light the Christ candle.

Candlelight Communion Service 11:00 p.m.

Experience anew the wonder of Christ’s birth and the gift of his life as we reflect, enjoy
special music from the Sanctuary Choir, share communion together, and light the
Christ candle.
