October Exhibit - Sally Remembers the 60s & 70s

Anyone who lived through the late 60s and early 70s in the United States vividly remembers the upheaval and turmoil of those years. Sally Stephenson was an art major at Ohio State University (OSU) during that time of campus riots and hippie lifestyle. Much of the artwork in this show is from her college days in 1968 to 1971.
"I was not a hippie," Sally states, "but many around me were, especially in the art department." "Looking at my artwork now," Sally explains," I feel it totally reflects the period - at least how I experienced it."
You may meet Sally on the Second Saturday Reception on October 14, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Below are a few examples of Sally's art.

September Art Exhibit - Curiosity at Play

Oil paintings by Sheila Jacobs will be on display at Carmichael Presbyterian Church for the month of September. Although Sheila has shared some of her other paintings in previous exhibits at the church, this will be her first solo exhibit in the Gathering Place Gallery. Sheila has enjoyed CPC so much that she has joined our fellowship.
Below are a few examples of Sheila's art.

July - August Exhibit: Spiritual Landscapes

CPC proudly features the artwork of one of its Friday Studio members, Bessie L. Hadley for the summer months of July and August. This will be Bessie's first solo exhibit at CPC. She is a Signature member of Northern California Artists and a member of the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. Bessie enjoys working in various media, including pastel, acrylic, watercolor and ink. She also enjoys photography.
You may visit with Bessie at the Second Saturday reception on July 8 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Below are examples of Bessie's work.

June Exhibit - Then and Now

Ann Ragland Bowns returns to the Gathering place Gallery for the June exhibit for a retrospective of her work over the last 50 years. It begins with some rather traditional oil paintings in the Fifties. As she became known, she became interested in experimental mediums and soon became adept at batiking.
Batiking is an art that originated in Indonesia and literally means "writing in wax." Ann has had many showings in Sacramento and many commissions for her work.

May Exhibit - Enjoying Nature's Gifts

Bob and Jeanne Uhte, celebrating  their 61st wedding anniversary, display their crafts and art creations, including acrylic paintings, pine needle baskets, Hawaiian Banana Bark, decorated gourds and some church sketches.
You may meet this couple and view their art at the Second Saturday Reception on May 13.
Examples of their art are shown below.

April Art Exhibit - Moments Remembered

The Art Committee is delighted to welcome back Dennis Marks for April. Dennis has exhibited as a photographer as well as an artist in different shows. During the month of April, Dennis will be sharing photographs of “Moments Remembered.”
Because it is often crowded on Sundays without enough time to stand quietly in the Gathering Place and inspect the pictures on exhibit, the Art Committee invites you to come on Second Saturday, April 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. and support your local artist.
Below are examples of Dennis' work.

March Exhibit -- Through the Eyes of A Preschooler

The art exhibit for March is a collection of work of Carmichael Presbyterian Preschool students. Art plays an important part in the lives of young children. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) considers art essential as a means for "young children to make their own personal, visual, written statement as a map of the mental and emotional strides they have already taken and as proof of their uniquely creative personality. Out of confusion, young children [through art] establish a degree of visual order, sense and beauty."
Below are some examples of their work.

February Exhibit - Through the Lens

As the Carmichael Presbyterian Church's Gathering Place Gallery begins its fifth year of exhibiting, Kellen Galster brings his unique perspective on the natural world with a collection of unusual photographs. “Through the Lens,” February’s exhibit. Galster, a 22-year-old graduate of Willamette University, says that it is "a composition of unique perspectives on the natural world."
Below are examples of his work.

January 2006 Art Exhibit - Visions

The paintings in this show are the favorite visions of the artist, Joan McMurray. She is drawn to the wonderful shapes of flowers, the great reflections you see on bottles or anything shiny, and landscapes that catches the eye and imagination.
Joan now sees things differently than before she took classes from Gretchen Ryan at an American River College adult class. In addition, she has taken classes at the Mendocino Art Center. She now likes trying different mediums, including oils, pastels and silk paintings.
Joan is a member of Northern California Artists and the Sacramento Fine Arts Center in Carmichael and is a member of CPC’s Friday’s Studio.
Below are examples of Joan’s art. Notice the difference between the two flowers. The second one is a silk painting.
