The December
Exhibit in the Gathering Place features artwork
from our Carmichael Presbyterian Preschool students.
All 73 students are represented with a variety of
wonderfully creative art projects. Below
are a few examples that can be seen.
November Exhibit -
Veterans Memorabilia
CPC's present and past membership
includes many veterans of all the wars since
WW I. Pictures of many veterans and articles
are included in the Exhibit for November and
December. Below are examples of items that
were shown. Do you know these veterans?
Sept. - Oct Exhibit
- "Upsilamba"
"Upsilamba!" is
a watercolor exhibit by Trisha St.Clair is on display for
the months of September and October. The unusual name "Upsilamba" is
explained by the artist as symbolic of the way she feels abut
art. She found the word in Vladimir Nabokov's book, Invitation
to a Beheading. It is a faux-word, used by the author
to mean "Joy." No matter the paint medium Trisha
is using, she says the creation of art is a joyful experience.
Trisha is particularly fond of metamorphosis, an interesting and provocative
challenge for her. This is a change of physical form or structure, or a
striking alteration in appearance or character.
Examples of Trish's work are shown below.
July - August Exhibit: "Memorable
Quilts"
For over 20 years Sally Willey has been creating
art out of pieces of fabrics. Unlike many quilters who come
from a long line of quilters in the family, Sally had no previous
connection with quilting. She simply saw some quilts and fell
in love with them. Taking two or three classes to begin her
introduction to this ancient sewing skill, she said she was
fascinated by the creative challenge that keeps her mind busy
planning each new project. Below are examples of Sally's work.
May - June Exhibit
-- "Ink Spot Fantasies"
The
Gathering Place Exhibit for May and June features a display of
photographs taken by Russ Franson. Russ is a versatile photographer
who tries very different techniques and subject matter. While
these may look like something you might see from a psychological
test, they were actually created with an ink drop dispersed in
water. Mirror images are printed and spliced together. It is
indeed different than you have seen before and amy bring to mind
different images to each viewer.
Below is a sampling of Russ' work.
March - April Exhibit "It's
Almost Spring"
Denna
Pro returns with a totally new collection of painting depicting the
flowers of Spring. Denna is considered one of the most prolific artists
in the Sacramento valley and has included flower painting in many of
her exhibits.
From and early age Denna was interested in art,
but she did not begin seriously studying art until her oldest son began second
grade. Most of her work is in California settings with accents on the hill country,
valley landscapes, old buildings and native flowers, both wild and domestic varieties.
Below are examples of Denna's work.
January-February Exhibit
- "Second Glance"
The Gathering Place Gallery
is delighted to present an exhibit of photographic work by Marion Chapman
as the gallery completes its fifth year of community outreach. This exhibit, “Second
Glance” will be on display for the months of January and February.
According to Marion, art has been a large part
of her life, whether it was painting, ceramics, glass or photography. She worked
in advertising and display for several years and graduated with a Master’s
Degree in Art Therapy from California State University, Sacramento. She worked
as a teacher for Sacramento City Unified School District in a special program
for institutionalized adults and focused on therapy for stroke victims, interned
at the American River Hospital and took additional courses at the College of
Notre Dame, San Francisco and at University of California, Santa Cruz.
Nature, rather than people, dominates my work, and Black
and white photography has a strong appeal for her. Over the years Marion has
exhibited in both juried and non-juried shows, most of them local. Below are
examples of Marion's art.
