Art Exhibit for November
- December
Memories of Zephyr Point: Jewel of the mountains
Lake
Tahoe is considered one of California and Nevada's
most beautiful natural wonders with it's blue-green
and pristine pure waters. Zephyr Point Presbyterian
Conference Center is the jewel setting on the shores
of the lake. Many Members of CPC and others throughout
the country have enjoyed exhilarating, educational,
spiritual, thoughtful and fun times at Zephyr Point
since its inception in 1925. Zephyr Point now has
two large and two smaller lodges where groups can
gather for meaningful and fun times. Some of our
members have created or recorded memorable items
or pictures to help us remember and share those
good times. Below are some examples of the art work.
September-October Art Exhibit
The Light of a New Season
The featured artist for these two months is Ann Kerr.
Ann is one of Carmichael’s own. Her parents, the Leverings,
have been long time members of CPC, as are their children
and grandchildren.
Ann shared a number of her paintings with the church
several years ago, and returns during the months of September
and October with
a new collection. Her exhibit, “The Light of a
New Season,” is
a collection of plein-air multimedia paintings in watercolor
and cran d’arche crayons that capture changing
lights and shadows in scenes of nature, season by season.
Ann
included some examples
of this type of painting in her previous show, but this
exhibit will focus on the use of this unusual medium.
Her style is very
reminiscent of the impressionists. Examples
of Ann's art are shown below.
July - August Art Exhibit
A Celebration of Family: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
The July & August exhibit features the artwork
of three generations of five related families. Starting with the "elderly" Darrell & Mary
Torgerson (Grams & Gramps) and including the grandchildren,
they all have been encouraged to try their hands at art.
The concept is that "every child is an artist just waiting to be encouraged." If
you cannot draw straight lines, then draw beautiful curvy lines, then learn
from someone who can teach you to draw straight lines. Unlike the usual
art exhibit, this one involves the work of 16 individuals ranging in age
from eight to 72. Each piece brought pleasure to the "artist" as
he or she tried to solve an artistic problem, whether depicting lines, shadows,
form, object or color.
Some examples are shown below.
May - June Exhibit:
The Mind's Eye
Bruce and Sharon MacLean, two of CPC's favorite
camera enthusiasts, are back with a new collection of
photographs called "The Mind's Eye." Now their
daughter Whitney also shares some of her photographs
as well. Bruce and Sharon began taking pictures when
they were kids and have now made their hobby into a photography
business. A sampling of their photography is shown below.
March April Exhibit
- "A Little of This, A Little of That"
Joan McMurry is featured
once again with an exhibit of oils, pastels and silk dyes.
Joan studied the use of silk and the Japanese art of Shibori
at the Mendocino Art Center. She has won awards at the Sacramento
County Fair and State Fair Cal Expo in to Creative Arts Section
and has works on display at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center
Boutique and the Doiron Gallery.
You may view her work in the Gathering Place on
Sunday or come to visit her and her work on the Second Saturday Reception on
March 9 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Below are a few of Joan's pieces on display.
January-February Exhibit
- Eyes of Hope
For the art exhibit for January
and February, Karen Banker shares with us her observations of culture
she has met in her travels throughout the world. Karen says, "I
want to share what I find to be common throughout my travels: HOPE
IN THE EYES OF THE CHILDREN -- no matter how dire their living
situation. I feel these children have so much potential that
is hungry to be developed. It is my hope to create interest in
networking resources with others who also see the hope in their
eyes. I have found that a small amount of money can make a huge
difference in the lives of these children; particularly in helping
them pursue their education."
You may see the entire collection in the Gathering
Place on Sundays or visit with Karen on the Second Saturday reception on January
12 from 4:00 to 6:00. Below are some examples of her photography
