Chancel Windows Project

It was recently discovered that the original design of the Chancel was to include eight windows with symbols depicting the life of Christ: Baptism, Epiphany, Nativity, Annunciation, Transfiguration, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension. These were never completed. Recently donated monies plus some memorial gift monies made possible the remodeling of  the Chancel to accommodate this originally intended design. When completed, members will be given the opportunity to fund the construction of stained glass designs for these windows as memorials.

Clicking on any picture will bring up a larger view.

This shows the Chancel as originally constructed with the large hole above the piano that housed the speakers for the original organ and the stained glass that was later installed in 1966.

These pictures show the remodeling progress: preparation for moving the A/C duct work from the window area and some interior work in the Sacristy.

Since members of the 1946 youth group helped make adobe bricks for the Chapel, that opportunity was recently given to our youth for the needed bricks. Below are the bags of clay and the frames for making the bricks, and the start of the making.

Here, the youth are working hard but seem to be having fun doing it. They are assisted and cheered on pastors Ivan and Keith, architect Joe Sanford, laurie Collison, Bruce Hinkle, Brian & Stacy Sawyer and the Dickson family.

Celebrating the completion of the day's work:

Compare the above with those making the bricks in 1946 for the Chapel:

Here the duct work has been rerouted from in front of the windows:

On the left is the hole where the old organ speakers were. On the right is the hole where the A/C return was.
Both of these holes will be reconstructed with the adobe brick made by the youth.

The skylight is place in the "dog house" and the ducting is rerouted into the Sacristy.

Protecting the chancel furniture and opening the large holes to prepare for laying adobe brick.

Laying the adobe brick to form the windows. Left or west side (above piano)

Right or east side (above organ)

Adobe work now completed. Will get painted when the mortar is dry.

First coat of paint                                 Looks great!

The east "doghouse" is coming down                          . . . .                             gone!

The West "doghouse" is now coming down                 . . .                         still work inside to do.
