Sunday Classes 10:00 -11:00 am
This is the adult class time. The classes vary in topic and
scope, and are led by one of
the
pastors or by a lay person -- always inspirational. The
Christian Education Division is pleased to offer the following
Sunday morning classes starting September
19:
• Church History in Plain Language (Howard Crowley Room)
This wonderful course continues in its second year with Dick Piper leading. Written by Dr. Bruce
Shelley, Church History in Plain Language brings church history to life, delves into social, political,
and theological movements in the church, and skillfully weaves it all together in an easy-to-read
narrative. Come study and discuss the roots of our Christian tradition for a deeper understanding of
who we are today. Stop by the Christian Education table at Sundae Sunday to pick up the question
sheet for the first chapter on the Reformation (chapter 24 in the text).
• Saving Jesus (Church Parlor)
This DVD and guided discussion format produced by the developers of Living the Questions encourages us to ask important questions about our faith. Such an invitation serves to strengthen our understanding of the profound significance Jesus of Nazareth has on our lives and on our own spiritual awakening. It also encourages us to embrace a greater understanding of faith that is inclusive
and reconciling rather than unique and exclusive. This course speaks to the twenty-first century
Christian and a twenty-first century global family.
• For Parents (and their kids) (Room 204)
Stepping Stones of Faith: “Entry into Sunday School” September 19, 26
Stepping Stones of Faith: “Baptism” October 3, 10
Have a New Kid by Friday: Beginning October 17
A six-week study developed by Dr. Kevin Leman. Dr. Leman discusses parental concerns with
their children’s attitude, behavior and character issues, and positive steps that can benefit the
whole family. The DVD portion will take place on Sunday mornings, with guided discussion
during Wednesday Works from 6:15-7:15 p.m.
• General Assembly Overview and Bible Study (Room 202)
On September 26 (NOTE: starts one week later than other classes) Pastor Ivan will present an overview of the actions taken at the 219th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The following seven weeks, we will use Frances Taylor Gench’s highly-reviewed book, Faithful Disagreement: Wrestling with Scripture in the Midst of Church Conflict to guide our Bible study, and will discuss the issues and their scriptural bases as they relate to ourselves, our church, and our congregation.
All of these classes are from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Sundays.
Please take a moment to read through the descriptions and decide
which ones you’ll attend!
